(South Africa) This is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The first vintage of this flagship wine was 1999, and the blend remains very similar from year to year. Less bold in style than earlier vintages, this is firm with delicate raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, and still tight. Drink 2007-19.

The De Toren Fusion V 2002 has just been awarded Five Stars by the United Kingdoms most influential wine magazine Decanter.
It is interesting how the palates of wine scribes differ from country to country. True to form, the wines from De Toren invariably do better in foreign markets (where wine from all over the world come across the desks of the scribes), compared to ratings from the local press. When the 2002 vintage of Fusion V received 5 Stars in Proefschrift Magazine in Holland , there was no hoo-hah, even though the wine was compared to 160 wines from all over the world and chosen as the red wine of the year in Holland .
The Five Stars awarded by DECANTER (who are traditionally tough on South African wines) confirmed the rating in Holland . May we therefore congratulate all the fans of Fusion V who purchased this wine. If you have not already consumed the wine, put it away - it will still improve in the bottle. Only 500 cases were released in South Africa.

| THE US MARKET IS STIRRED AND WE ARE SHAKEN! |

Many wine enthusiasts have way too many wines to choose from and make use of a third party to verify a wine`s quality, eg a wine focussed magazine, a trusted sommelier / retailer or someone with a recognised palate.
In this instance the highly respected Wine Spectator`s Senior Editor James Molesworth presented his verdict on the De Toren Fusion V 2003 and pronounced it as his Wine of the Week, complete with a 91 point rating. This wonderful news was accompanied by an urgent delivery call from our US agents, as the Fusion V consumer base in America seemed to be `moved`.
It`s quite amazing, and somewhat frightening the immediate effect positive recognition such as this has on the massive American market. Nothing like benchmarks to keep us on our toes!

The DDS Driefontein Shiraz (2003) - a joint venture between ourselves and Domain Bertagna from Burgundy is just about all sold out.
Of the 350 cases made, allocations were made to our restaurant clients, some wine was sold to our clients purchasing directly from the farm and some of the wines went overseas, for example to the Michelin star restaurant Wolfslaar in Breda, the Netherlands. A couple of cases were also placed with Singita Private Game Reserve, who was appointed best small hotel in the world for 3 years in a row now.
We have 34 cases left on the farm. As our valued clients we are prepared to let this great wine go to our customers in South Africa and Europe . DIVERSITY DELTA A WINNER IN BERLIN! |

During our recent market visit to Berlin , we had the opportunity to present our Diversity Delta to 45 of the top sommeliers in Berlin .
The wine was tasted blind and was placed in a line up against some world renowned Bordeaux labels. The tasting took place in the Westin Grand Hotel in Berlin over 3 nights with 15 sommeliers attending each session. Diversity Delta was placed in the top 4 of the wines tasted each time.
This is no mean feat for a wine that sells at R95.00 per bottle. We still have limited stock available - just click on the order form!

SECRETS OF OUR SUCCESS:
Part 10 : Single Berry Sorting
|
It is vitally important that grapes do not stand around in the sun after harvesting, or gets damaged in the process of getting the grapes to the cellar. To this end our viticulturist, Ernest Manual has become very enterprising.
His second love is welding, so he designed a mechanism that fits directly on to the hydraulic lifts of the tractor. This "lift" holds 44 crates of hand picked grapes and is stacked onto a pallet. Within one hour of harvest, the freshly cut grapes are packed onto the pallet and is driven straight to the cellar where the load is weighed, hand sorted, de-stemmed and then single berry sorted and delivered into the pre cooled fermenting tank.
This whole process takes less than 1 hour and ensures that our grapes are the freshest and coolest you can think of. In this way we can ensure that all those great flavour s that the grapes give us is kept intact for another great vintage of Fusion V!

We will again be auctioning 10 cases of one of our older vintages. This year on Auction will be our De Toren Fusion V 2000. A 91 point Wine Spectator rating and 4 1/2 stars in Platter and Wine Magazine, also Wein Wisser, in a special tasting in Switzerland placed the 2000 vintage 5th amongst the world`s great Bordeaux style blends - this should see this wine achieving record prices again.
