FUSION V

Fusion V is the crown of the De Toren Cellar's labour - a tasting sensation and ageing jewel!

Fusion V is named such because it is a blend of the only the best of the five red Bordeaux variatals that the farm produces. Made up of all of the classic varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot - the final assemblage is created by a panel that includes wine makers, sommeliers and enthusiasts, and the result is a wine that is judged of the highest quality by a range of tasters even before it is released.

In a recent article for the Dutch wine forum, Perswijn, influential wine writer Cees van Casteren has lavished praise on South Africa 's ability to make great Bordeaux-style blends. He named De Toren as one of his favourites in this category where Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

He also observed that De Toren and Latour are perhaps suggestively close, but that the wines of De Toren stand proud in their own right - a conclusion also reached by the International Wine and Spirits Competition when they awarded the Fusion V 2001 a Gold medal in this year's competition. This vintage has also been awarded 91 points in America 's Wine Spectator and 4½ stars in SA Wine Magazine; as well as being voted Best Red Wine at Johannesburg 's biggest wine show, WineX, in 2004. The previous 2000 vintage scored 4 stars in UK Decanter.
